What is Legacy.com?

The Deseret News partners with Legacy.com, the largest provider of obituaries, to connect obituaries nationwide. The reader may access obituaries from deseretnews.com with full access to national obits. Your purchase in the Deseret News includes the ability for a family member to enhance the obit and guest book availability for one year.

What is the Facebook option?

This option is not the same as sharing the notice on your personal Facebook page. This new opportunity places the obituary in the newsfeeds of individuals most likely to have known your loved one. Often times these are the people who knew your loved one but otherwise would not have known of their passing.

Placing the obituary in print and online, posting the notice on Facebook to appear in the newsfeeds of your desired target audience and sharing it on your own personal Facebook page ensures that the news of your loved one's passing is read by as large of a community of family, friends and colleagues as possible.

Why must I use the format of full name, life span (date of birth to date of death) and city of residence?

The Deseret News initiated this new format to help readers navigate through each day's obituaries since the circulation area of our daily newspaper is so large. This format is being used by other newspapers with positive reader response. The formatting of larger type name in bold and light face text adds to the professional display and dignity of these important notices.

How will the photo(s) I include be displayed?

Photos will appear in color in the newspaper and online. Some families choose both a recent photo and an earlier photo of their loved one. Because the inclusion of the photo has lasting value, choose the photo that honors the deceased. If you have a favorite photo that includes multiple people and pets, the photo should be cropped to display the deceased only.
